WooCommerce to Shopify Migration Cost (2026 Breakdown)

What it really costs to migrate WooCommerce to Shopify in 2026: Shopify plans, migration tools, theme, apps and developer time, with worked examples.

The cost to migrate WooCommerce to Shopify in 2026 ranges from about $50 for a small store you move yourself with a migration tool to several thousand dollars when a developer rebuilds the theme, replaces custom plugins and maps every redirect. Most of the money goes on three things: the data migration, rebuilding the storefront, and replacing what your WooCommerce plugins did. Shopify's own subscription is the smallest part of the first-month bill.

Below is every cost line with prices checked on the vendors' own pages on 27 October 2026, three worked examples by store size, and the hidden costs that turn a cheap estimate into an expensive one.

The short answer: cost by line item

Cost line Typical range One-time or ongoing
Shopify plan $19–$299 a month on yearly billing; Plus from $2,300 a month Ongoing
Data migration tool Free (manual CSV) to about $50–$200 for one month of a tool One-time
Theme $0 (free theme) to about $400 (paid theme), more for a custom build One-time
Apps replacing plugins $0 to a few hundred dollars a month, depending on features Ongoing
Developer or agency time From a few hundred dollars for a small store to five figures for a large custom one One-time
Redirects and SEO checks Free in Shopify's admin; bulk tools for large catalogs One-time

The pages that rank for this question quote anything from $500 to $75,000. Both numbers can be true. The spread comes from catalog size, how much custom code the WooCommerce store runs, and whether the design is rebuilt or replaced with a theme.

1. Shopify subscription

Shopify's pricing page lists these plans for the United States, as of 27 October 2026:

Plan Billed monthly Billed yearly (per month)
Basic $25 $19
Grow $65 $49
Advanced $399 $299
Plus From $2,300 n/a

New stores get a 3-day free trial, then $1 a month for the first 3 months on most plans. That covers the development period for a typical migration, so you rarely pay full price while the new store is being built.

Payment processing fees depend on the plan and on whether you use Shopify Payments or another provider, and Shopify adds a transaction fee when you use a third-party gateway. Check the current rates for your country on Shopify's pricing page before you compare totals with WooCommerce.

2. Moving the data

Products, variants, customers, orders and blog posts have to travel from the WooCommerce database into Shopify. There are three ways to do it.

Manual CSV (free, slow, error-prone). WooCommerce exports products to CSV, and Shopify imports products from CSV, but the two formats don't match. WooCommerce puts a variable product and its variations on separate rows linked by a parent ID, while Shopify expects every variant on a row that repeats the product's handle. Converting by hand works for a few dozen simple products. For hundreds of variable products it is where most DIY migrations lose SKUs and images.

A migration service (paid by volume). Cart2Cart and LitExtension connect to both stores and copy the data for you. Both price by the number of records you move:

  • Cart2Cart's WooCommerce to Shopify page has an estimator: you enter your counts of products, customers and orders and it shows the price. Its Shopify migration page lists a minimum fee of $29.
  • LitExtension's Shopify app is free to install and charges for the migration itself, also by volume.

Run the estimator with your real numbers before you assume a figure.

Matrixify (an import app, paid per 30 days). Matrixify reads and writes spreadsheets in Shopify's format. Developers often use it because it also imports redirects and blog posts. Its published plans:

Plan Price Products per job Customers per job Orders per job
Demo Free 10 10 10
Basic $20 per 30 days 5,000 2,000 1,000
Big $50 per 30 days 50,000 20,000 10,000
Enterprise $200 per 30 days Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited

The limits apply per import job, and one month is usually enough for a migration.

3. Theme and storefront

Your WooCommerce theme does not move to Shopify. You either start from a Shopify theme or have one built.

  • Free Shopify theme: $0. Shopify's in-house free themes are fast and well maintained, and fine for many stores after branding.
  • Paid Theme Store theme: a one-time purchase, licensed for one store. A third-party analysis of 306 paid themes in August 2026 put the median price at $315, with most between $100 and $400.
  • Custom theme or heavy customization: priced as development time. This is the right choice when the store's design is part of the brand, or when the WooCommerce site had custom page layouts that customers rely on.

Budget time for the parts no theme does for you: product page sections, size guides, custom product fields, and any landing pages your marketing uses.

4. Apps that replace your plugins

This is the line most estimates forget. Every WooCommerce plugin that does something your customers see needs an equivalent in Shopify, usually an app with a monthly fee:

  • product reviews
  • subscriptions
  • product options and add-ons
  • wholesale pricing
  • bundles
  • loyalty points
  • advanced search
  • delivery date pickers

List every active plugin before you get a quote, and mark which ones matter. Some disappear because Shopify does the job natively (basic SEO fields, discount codes, abandoned checkout emails). Some need an app. Some need custom code, which is where a developer's estimate grows.

5. Developer or agency time

If you hire help, this is the biggest line. What drives it:

  • Catalog size and shape. 200 simple products is a different job from 8,000 products with variations, custom fields and bundles.
  • Order history. Some stores only need customers and products. Others need years of orders in Shopify for reporting or customer accounts, which adds import time and checks.
  • Custom WooCommerce code. Checkout fields, custom pricing rules or integrations with an ERP need to be rebuilt as Shopify apps, Functions or theme code.
  • Design. Re-skinning a theme is quick. Rebuilding a custom design is not.
  • Redirects and SEO. Every old product, category and post URL needs a 301 redirect to its new Shopify URL so search rankings and links carry over.

For reference, these are my fixed prices next to typical agency prices. I use my own migration app for the data move, which is why I can charge about half:

Store Typical agency price My fixed price With my store build (50% off the migration)
Starter: up to 300 products $1,500–$3,000 from $750 from $375
Growing: 300–2,000 products $3,000–$6,500 from $1,500 from $750
Large: 2,000–10,000 products $6,500–$12,000 from $3,250 from $1,625
Complex: 10,000+ products, B2B or custom integrations from $10,000 from $5,000 from $2,500

Agency prices are the ranges published by the Shopify agency Cartworks in its 2026 migration cost guide; other agencies publish higher ranges, up to $60,000 for large stores. Every quote is fixed, in US dollars, after a free audit of the store, so the price doesn't change halfway through. Agencies with project managers and designers make sense when you also want a full redesign and marketing support under one contract.

Three worked examples

These use only the published prices above, with Shopify's Basic or Grow plan on yearly billing. Developer time is shown separately because it depends on the scope.

Small store Medium store Large store
Catalog 150 simple products, 800 customers, no order history 1,500 products with variations, 6,000 customers, 8,000 orders 12,000 products, 40,000 customers, 60,000 orders, subscriptions
Shopify plan Basic, $19/month Grow, $49/month Advanced, $299/month
Data tool Matrixify Basic, $20 Matrixify Big, $50 Matrixify Enterprise, $200
Theme Free theme, $0 Paid theme, about $300 Custom sections on a paid theme
Apps Reviews, possibly free tier Reviews, product options, search Reviews, subscriptions, wholesale, search
Developer time Optional Recommended Required

The software side of a small store can stay under $50 for the first month. A large store's software is still only a few hundred dollars. The rest of the cost is the work of moving the data correctly and rebuilding what customers use.

Hidden costs to plan for

  • Lost rankings from missing redirects. If product URLs change and nobody redirects them, search traffic can drop for weeks. Shopify uses /products/ and /collections/ paths, so almost every WooCommerce URL changes. Redirects are free to create but take time to map.
  • Customer passwords. Passwords cannot be moved, because both platforms store them as one-way hashes. Customers need an account invite or a sign-in with an emailed code on launch day. Plan the email so it doesn't look like phishing.
  • Reviews. Reviews live in a plugin's tables, not in product data. Moving them needs a reviews app that accepts an import, and some apps have changed which platforms they support. Check before you promise customers their reviews will stay.
  • Downtime and order gaps. Orders placed on WooCommerce after the final data copy need a last sync before the domain switches.
  • Staff time. Someone has to check products, test checkout, and learn the Shopify admin. Budget a few days.

How to keep the cost down

  1. Clean the catalog before migrating. Delete discontinued products, fix missing SKUs, and merge duplicate customers. You pay tools by volume, and every bad record is moved, checked and fixed twice.
  2. Decide what history you really need. Many stores move the last 12–24 months of orders and keep an export of the rest.
  3. Replace plugins with apps only where customers would notice. Fewer apps means lower monthly fees and a faster store.
  4. Start from a good theme instead of rebuilding the old design pixel for pixel, unless the design is a reason customers buy.
  5. Do a test import into a development store first. Fixing a mapping mistake there costs minutes; fixing it after launch costs orders.

When to get help

A small catalog of simple products is a reasonable DIY job with a migration tool and the steps in my WooCommerce to Shopify migration guide. Once you have variable products, custom checkout fields, subscriptions, or rankings you can't afford to lose, the cost of mistakes is higher than the cost of help. My WooCommerce to Shopify migration service covers the data, theme, apps and redirects for a fixed quote after a free audit, and you can send me your store details for one.

FAQ

Is migrating from WooCommerce to Shopify expensive?

The software is not. A small store can move for under $50 in tool costs plus a Shopify plan from $19 a month. The expensive part is developer time for variable products, custom features, design and redirects.

How long does a WooCommerce to Shopify migration take?

A small store with simple products can move in a few days. Larger catalogs, custom features and a new design take a few weeks, mostly for testing and fixing data before launch.

Can I migrate WooCommerce to Shopify for free?

Partly. You can convert product CSV files by hand and use a free Shopify theme, and Shopify's trial covers the build period. For variable products, customers and orders, a paid tool or app usually saves more time than it costs.

Do I lose my SEO when moving from WooCommerce to Shopify?

Not if every old URL redirects to its new Shopify URL with a 301 redirect, page titles and descriptions are carried over, and the new store is fast. Rankings usually dip briefly and recover when redirects are complete.

Will my customers need new passwords?

Yes. Passwords can't be transferred between the platforms. Import the customers, then send account invitations or let them sign in with Shopify's emailed one-time code.
