Theme sections and theme blocks
Custom sections and reusable theme blocks, the nestable building pieces Shopify's Horizon themes are made from, so your client's team can rearrange pages in the theme editor.
Agency partnership / Ali Nawaz
I provide white label Shopify development for agencies: theme sections, Liquid changes, custom apps, checkout extensions and store migrations, delivered under your agency's name. You own the client and the store relationship, and I work as the Shopify developer behind your team, as a registered Shopify Partner and under NDA when you need one.
The approach
Shopify work for an agency is different from Shopify work for a merchant. The brief has already been sold, the client expects your standards, and the store is often taking orders while the change is built. So I ask the awkward questions before quoting: which plan the store is on, which apps already touch the theme, and whether the feature needs Shopify Plus. Those three answers decide most of the cost.
You work directly with me from requirements through launch. That keeps product context close to technical decisions and avoids the gaps that appear when strategy, interface, backend, and deployment are treated as separate problems.
What I can build
The scope is shaped around your users, operating reality, and the smallest responsible path to value.
Custom sections and reusable theme blocks, the nestable building pieces Shopify's Horizon themes are made from, so your client's team can rearrange pages in the theme editor.
Changes to an existing theme in Liquid: product templates, collection filters, cart drawers, metafield content and fixes for whatever the last developer left behind.
Custom apps built in Shopify's Dev Dashboard, plus Shopify Functions for discount, shipping and payment rules. Custom apps with Functions only run on Plus, and I say so before you quote.
Checkout UI extensions for the information, shipping and payment steps on Plus, and Thank you and Order status page blocks, which work from the Basic plan up.
Stores moved from WooCommerce to Shopify and back, with my own migration app for the data and 301 redirects for every old URL.
Slow stores measured first, then leftover app code removed, scripts loaded only where they are needed and images sized properly.
Store access
Shopify has a proper way for a developer to get into a client's store. I use it on every job, because a shared owner login is a security risk for your client and a liability for your agency.
| Step | How it works on Shopify |
|---|---|
| Your client shares a code | Under Settings, Users, Security, the store has a 4-digit collaborator request code. Your client copies it and sends it to you, or to me if you prefer. |
| I send the request | From my Partner account I request access to the store's myshopify.com address, choosing only the permissions the task needs. Shopify requires two-step authentication on my side. |
| Your client approves | The store owner or an Administrator accepts the request and can trim the permissions further, or limit me to certain apps and sales channels. Collaborators can never be given the Administrator role. |
| Work happens | Collaborator accounts don't use up the store's staff seats, and every change I make is logged under my name in the store's activity history. |
| Access ends | Your client can remove the collaborator account permanently at any time. Shopify also expires collaborator access after 90 days without a login, so a finished job doesn't leave a door open. |
The handover
A good brief saves a week. For a Shopify project I ask for the store's myshopify.com address and plan, the designs or a marked-up screenshot, a list of installed apps, and the date your client expects to see something. For a bug, a screen recording beats a paragraph.
I pick up tickets in your Jira, Asana or Trello board, talk in your Slack, and push to your GitHub or Bitbucket repository. No theme repository? I work on a duplicate theme and send a preview link.
Before any code, you get a fixed quote listing what's included and anything the plan or current apps rule out. If the scope is fuzzy, I audit the store first, free.
Platform changes
Several old shortcuts are gone, and briefs written from memory often still assume them. Since January 1, 2026, merchants can't create new legacy custom apps in the Shopify admin, so a new custom app is set up in the Dev Dashboard instead. Shopify Scripts stopped running on June 30, 2026. Additional scripts on the Thank you and Order status pages ended for non-Plus stores on August 26, 2026, which is why some clients have noticed their conversion tracking went quiet.
None of this blocks a project, but it changes the estimate: tracking moves to web pixels, checkout changes to extensions, discount logic to Functions. I build with the current tools, so your client's store won't need redoing at the next deprecation.
Quality checks
Every change is built on an unpublished copy of the theme or in a development store, never on the live theme. Before I send you the preview, I test the affected templates on a phone and a desktop browser, put a product through the cart to the checkout, and look at the theme editor to make sure your client can still edit the new section without breaking it.
I also check what clients notice late: apps that inject theme code still work, empty metafields fail quietly, and speed scores haven't dropped. You get a short note on what changed and what I tested, written so you can forward it as your own.
New stores
If your agency is a Shopify Partner, the cleanest setup is a client transfer store created in your own Partner organization. It is configured there and then handed to your client when it's ready to go live, so the ownership transfer, and any referral commission Shopify pays on it, stay with your agency, not with me.
No Partner account? I build it in my organization and transfer it to your client. Either way, Shopify blocks the transfer while Shopify Payments is active, so payments are switched on after the handover.
Ways to work and pricing
Most agencies start with one fixed-price project. Some then move to a monthly retainer for steady tickets across client stores; others send work only when they're busy. Every project ends with 15 days of free support, so small issues found after launch are fixed without a new invoice.
| Work | Price in USD |
|---|---|
| Theme, Liquid and app projects | From $500, fixed quote after the brief |
| Migration, up to 300 products | From $750 |
| Migration, 300 to 2,000 products | From $1,500 |
| Migration, 2,000 to 10,000 products | From $3,250 |
| Migration, 10,000+ products or B2B | From $5,000 |
| Ongoing Shopify tickets | Monthly retainer, billed monthly |
| Payment terms | 50% upfront, 50% on delivery |
Proof
My white label work is under NDA, so I can't show it. I can show direct work: The House of Noire, a fashion store in Islamabad that I set up on Shopify and customized in 2026, and the migration app I built for moving stores between WooCommerce and Shopify. I've been a developer since 2017. Beyond that, a small test ticket is the honest proof.

Common questions
Your agency sells the Shopify project and manages the client, and I build it. The client sees your agency's name on the store, the reports and the invoices. I never contact them and never add credits or links to their site.
Through a collaborator request from my Shopify Partner account. Your client gives you the 4-digit request code from their admin, I send the request with only the permissions the job needs, and they approve it. No passwords are shared.
Yes. Plus matters most for checkout work and Functions: only Plus stores can customize the information, shipping and payment steps, and only Plus stores can run custom apps that contain Shopify Functions. I check the plan before I quote any of that.
Not as a custom app, because Shopify only runs custom apps with Functions on Plus. The options are the built-in discount settings, a public App Store app that uses Functions, or moving the client to Plus. I'll lay those out with costs so you can advise your client.
Scripts stopped running on June 30, 2026, so any discount, shipping or payment logic they handled is gone or already moved. I rebuild that logic with Shopify Functions and test it against real carts before it goes live.
Both. Most agency work is customizing the theme a client already has: new sections, theme blocks, template changes and bug fixes. For a distinctive design, I build the theme from your Figma file instead of fighting a premium theme.
Projects start at $500. Migrations are banded by catalog size, from $750 for up to 300 products. Every quote is fixed, in US dollars, and paid 50% upfront and 50% on delivery.
I'm in Lahore (UTC+5). My day overlaps US Eastern mornings and UK afternoons, so questions sent before lunch in New York or London get answered the same working day.
Yes, please do. A single section or bug fix shows you how I write Liquid, how I report progress and how close the result is to the brief, before you trust me with a bigger client.
